1. Obtain the U2 form before leaving for Germany<\/span><\/h2>\n

Four weeks after the date of your\u00a0<\/span>registration as unemployed in France<\/span>, you can request the\u00a0<\/span>U2 form issued by\u00a0<\/span>France Travail<\/span>\u00a0either\u00a0<\/span>online<\/span>\u00a0via your personal space or\u00a0<\/span>during an appointment with your advisor. <\/span>It is important to anticipate this request, as <\/span>processing can take several days<\/span>\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n

This four-week period corresponds to the\u00a0<\/span>minimum period<\/span>\u00a0during which you must be\u00a0<\/span>registered as a jobseeker in France<\/span>\u00a0before you can request the transfer of your unemployment benefits to another European Union country. During this period, you must also be available to accept a job or\u00a0<\/span>participate in integration measures offered<\/span>\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span>France Travail<\/span>\u00a0.<\/span><\/p>\n

The U2 form will allow you to\u00a0<\/span>continue receiving unemployment benefits<\/span>\u00a0while you\u00a0<\/span>look for work in Germany<\/span> . Once you receive the U2 form, you will need <\/span>to submit it to the German national employment service<\/span>: the\u00a0<\/span>Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Arbeit<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Steps to transfer unemployment benefits<\/span><\/h2>\n

Conditions of transfer<\/span><\/h4>\n

Conditions\u00a0<\/span>for transferring unemployment benefits<\/span>\u00a0to another EU member state:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • unemployment<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Unemployment registration in Germany<\/span><\/li>\n
  • right to unemployment benefits<\/span><\/li>\n
  • application with\u00a0<\/span>form U2<\/span>\u00a0(application for authorization to transfer benefits) in Germany, before leaving the country<\/span><\/li>\n
  • registration as a job seeker<\/span>\u00a0in the country of job search, no later than 7 days after departure<\/span><\/li>\n
  • compliance with obligations arising<\/span>\u00a0from foreign legislation (e.g., taking into account appointments and deadlines)<\/span><\/li>\n
  • possession of the\u00a0<\/span>nationality of a Member State<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Respecting the waiting period:<\/span> You must remain available to the employment agency for at least 4 weeks before leaving the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

    A reduction in the period is possible<\/span>\u00a0when placement on the job market is not possible in the near future or for compelling reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Transfer duration<\/span><\/h4>\n

    The\u00a0<\/span>duration of the transfer of unemployment benefits<\/span>\u00a0to another EU member state:<\/span><\/p>\n

    • In principle, for a\u00a0<\/span>period of 3 months<\/span><\/li>\n
    • But on request,\u00a0<\/span>extension of up to 6 months<\/span>\u00a0in total<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Request no later than the last day of the\u00a0initially granted\u00a0<\/span>allocation period<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      3. Register with the\u00a0<\/span>Arbeitsagentur<\/span>\u00a0as a job seeker<\/span><\/h2>\n

      Once you have the U2 form in your possession, you must register as a job seeker with the\u00a0<\/span>Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Arbeit<\/span>\u00a0(Federal Employment Agency) within\u00a0<\/span>7 calendar days<\/span>\u00a0of your departure from France.<\/span><\/p>\n

      This\u00a0<\/span>deadline is strictly enforced<\/span>: if you do not respect this deadline, you risk temporarily or permanently losing the right to receive your unemployment benefits abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

      The\u00a0<\/span>Bundesagentur f\u00fcr Arbeit<\/span>\u00a0is the German\u00a0<\/span>equivalent of\u00a0<\/span>France Travail. <\/span>To register, it is advisable to <\/span>make an appointment as soon as possible, <\/span>preferably before you leave France. You will need to provide several documents, including:<\/span><\/p>\n

      • the\u00a0original\u00a0<\/span>U2 form<\/span><\/li>\n
      • an\u00a0<\/span>identity document<\/span>\u00a0or passport<\/span><\/li>\n
